FREEBIE: Water Saving Tips PART II

By Water Liberty August 24, 2017 0 comments

Did you know that flushing the toilet accounts for 30% of your household water use?

It’s odd to think that something so sacred and vital to our very existence, something that people in countries all across the globe struggle for every single day of their life, has been exploited into becoming our very own ‘poop butler’.

We’ve taken water for granted and it’s time we learn to respect and conserve our water. Here are a few simple things you can do today to help preserve one of our planet’s most valuable resources.

  • Fix any leaks. Leaks alone account for about 8% of household water usage. If every household in America had a faucet that dripped once each second, 928 million gallons of water would be lost a day

  • “If it’s yellow, let it mellow”. It’s not necessary to flush every time you go. Older toilets use about 3 gallons of water with each flush while newer ‘low flow’ toilets have reduced it down to 1.6 gallons

  • Upgrade to dual flush. If you can’t upgrade your toilet to a dual flush toilet, then by putting a brick in the toilet cistern, you can save up to 2.5 million gallons of water a year

  • “Cut down” on showering. Showers use approximately 21% of household water. You can conserve water by using the ‘warm up’ shower water to water your plants with and by taking shorter showers, roughly around 5 minutes. In addition, if you use a low-flow shower head, it can save up to 15 gallons of water during a 10-minute shower

  • Turn off the tap - Faucets may use up to 9% of your household water. It is recommended that you turn off the tap when you’re not using it, such as when you’re brushing your teeth or scrubbing your dishes

These tips may seem simple but none the less, doing them every day really adds up.

Every drop counts! Till Next Time,
