What Are the True Benefits of Sustainable Energy?

By Water Liberty February 07, 2019 0 comments

In 2016, it’s hard to deny that sustainable energy is the most efficient and smart way to fuel our world. “Crude oil reserves are vanishing at the rate of 4 billion tonnes a year – if we carry on at this rate without any increase for our growing population or aspirations, our known oil deposits will be gone by 2052.”1 Sustainable energy sources are the main option when attempting to preserve our resources and extend human life on the planet. Let’s take a look at some of the strongest defenses and benefits of using sustainable energy over any other option.

Sustainable Energy is Just That – Sustainable

Perhaps the most obvious and most beneficial benefit to sustainable energy is the fact that they are inherently renewable or can support their own use independent of any other source. We won’t run out of them like we will with fossil fuels. Solar power and wind energy both rely on natural elements that are infinitely sustainable. After all, if there is suddenly no sun or if the oceans disappeared and we had no wind, life on earth would be difficult to maintain anyway. There is no cost to creating these resources, only the cost of harnessing them. Even these costs are small.

Little or No Pollution

These alternative renewable sources also emit less pollution and fewer emissions into the environment than fossil fuels. Some have no harmful by-products at all. One of the major downsides to fossil fuels are CO2 emissions which are believed to be contributing to planetary damage such as climate change. With renewable and sustainable resources we eliminate this issue.

Green Jobs

Making the change to renewable energy also helps address the problem of low employment rates in America today. By making the change to renewable resources we also create green jobs by way of a solar panel installation wind turbine manufacturing, fuel production and transportation, etc. Millions of skilled jobs can be created while also promoting a healthy or planet.

Energy Independence

Currently we take our fuel from all over the world and have suffered the repercussions of the devastating wars that tend to rise due to oil. Despite this, we are dependent on this fuel and must adhere to the prices and standards of other nations in order to take advantage of that market. If we were able to produce our own fuel locally not only would we be independent, but also free from the instability of oil prices on the world market. We would also be able to create a new market through which we may be able to generate income from overseas.

Sustainable energy does have a few downsides, such as the fact that solar energy is hard to harness on cloudy days and a lot of these forms of energy are expensive and complicated to convert to. However, when you really look at it, the benefits far outweigh the cons, especially when it comes to preserving the Earth and it’s resources for future generations.
